Anyone regularly using a palm pilot online? I just set my Zire72 up using my bluetooth phone as the modem. seems to work ok but is kinda slow....and pages are big so it is awkward to see easily. [ I am typing this with the palm] _________________ Everyone has a photographic memory..some, like me, just don't have any film. |

I use a Samsung i500 (Palm + cell phone, normal res screen), so I know all about your pain. I used to use a Visor with a wireless modem and even a Palm III with a 2400 baud external modem.
Your high res screen helps out a lot, but you probably want to stick to wap sites and web pages that are designed for mobile phone use. Try http://wap.google.com http://wap.geocaching.com and others. |

Are any url's you key in to the phone working??
I am using Cingular...I could do some things thru the web browser on a "pay per use" rate but was unable to get the phone to work with any url's
It wasn't until I recently got serious about wanting to use my laptop from the car linked to the cell phone....I signed up for "unlimited use" media plan.
That seemed to open up more features for my phone. Since changing to a "plan" instead of the "pay as you go" basics, I got the laptop working...later figured out how to get the palm pilot working...and just recently discovered that my phone (Motorola V551) works with wap sites where it did't before.
By the way...I am using the same phone I talked about elsewhere that had been dropped in my driveway, and driven over by a Dodge Truck. Aparantly, Motorola's are pretty tough _________________ Everyone has a photographic memory..some, like me, just don't have any film. |

| Since we are on the subject of Palm Pilots, is there any advantages to a blue tooth palm pilot over a regular one. Also if you do use a blue tooth PDA do you still have to run the plucker program and clay jar program or something similar to it to get the cache sheets. |

I don't know about Palm, but my iPAQ won't talk to my RAZR via IR, but it will with Bluetooth--I can only go to http://rtr.ca/geo and http://wap.geocaching.com with just the phone, but if I use the phone to dial up the ISP I use at home, I can link via Bluetooth to look at normal websites like this one and geocaching.com on my iPAQ. I don't have a physical keyboard for either one, so it's still easier to log everything when I get home, but it's still handy having the connectability to look stuff up when I'm in the field. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

Well, my Motorola didn't survive landing between an ice covered asphalt path and my ass! _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

LOL! Heres the spot where I'm tempted to make some kind of comment about the weight of a Dodge Truck in comparison to Moe's ass
I'll "let it go".....but it is tempting.

Think of bluetooth as a WIRELESS substitution of connecting devices together...example: If I had a cable to connect my palm pilot to my phone..it would work the same way...only I would be confined by the length of the cable. (bluetooth sends it's own signal out to read other bluetooth signals within 30 feet or less)
I added a bluetooth adapter (plugs in to a usb port) to my laptop so that it can wirelessly link to my bluetooth phone and allow internet access.
I still have to do the long..painstaking process to get my cache info from PQ to GSAK, from GSAK to Sunrise/Plucker....than I have a choice of hotsync either with bluetooth or I can hook my cable between the Palm and the computer. (I usually use the cable method ...it seems a little faster)
Hope this makes sense to you.
bottom line is....IMHO.. If you live in the heart of the metro where free WIFI is plentiful...forget about bluetooth. If you live out in the sticks (like me) or if you just simply want internet access anywhere your phone gets a signal, than bluetooth may be right for you. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a bluetooth equipped palm unless you buy a cell phone that is also bluetooth equipped. (you can still do some neat things but if you want internet...the phone is a must)
