Well, itís after the holidays and everyone is back up and running on getting association business cleared. I have a couple updates on very old business, some slightly old business, and a couple of new business points. Nothing terribly exciting, honestly, but I hope that will all change in the February edition of the Presidentís Cacheside Chat.

Old, old, old business updates:

The calendar voting has closed and is now for sale on Cafepress (see here: for more information). Thanks to all those that submitted and voted! Pear Head did an excellent job getting this all put together and out the door on such short notice. Thanks go out to him as well for all the hard work with sorting through the submissions, creating the forum voting sections, and posting all the thumbnails, etc. Awesome job!

We sold about 18 MnGCA Calendars even with the short notice. We are looking to get a calendar ready for 2007 a bit earlier this year so look for the announcement for that sometime in the late Spring.

Thanks again to everyone who submitted photos and purchased calendars. Thanks again to Pear Head for all the hard work he put forward to get the voting up and the calendars available on Cafepress!

As most of you know, the Three Rivers policy presentation occurred in mid-November and went off without a hitch. We have posted the presentation (in PPS/zipped) format and the announcement for that is located here:

Weíre still waiting to hear back about its adoption as the Three Rivers Park District Board hadnít met since we made the presentation.

I have been in touch with Three Rivers since my last monthly update and we are still waiting on their late-January Board meeting before we hear back about the successes of the policy that the MnGCA proposed back in November.

I will pass along any information I receive as soon as I hear back from Three Rivers.

The MnGCA Board made preliminary contact with the DNR and worked with several members of their staff to setup a policy discussion meeting for mid December. We made the official announcement of our discussions with them on December 1st and itís posted here:

We will keep everyone updated on any future plans, updates, and outcome of those discussions.

We have another DNR meeting scheduled with the DNR for early February. We are incorporating ideas, discussions, and suggestions given to us by both the DNR and the excellent discussions going on amongst the MnGCA Membership. We hope to have some more in-depth and exciting news following the February meeting.

Old business update:

2. International CITO Day (Sponsored by Groundspeak) will be held on April 22nd, 2006. The MnGCA is looking to get an event together and if anyone is interested in planning please contact the MnGCA Board here:

Weíre not going to ask for a committee to be formed but if anyone is interested in moving in that direction please contact me privately and weíll be happy to setup a private forum for your discussions.

Some discussions have occurred about the April 26th, 2006 CITO Day and we are exploring several options including Dakota County Parks, Three Rivers Parks, and possibly some DNR lands. Nothing is set in stone at this time.

If you would like to help out, have some suggestions for CITO locations, or have any other comments about the 2006 CITO day, please contact sui generis privately.

New business:

Arrow 1. The April 29th, 2006 Breakfast Buddies will be held at the Fryiní Pan restaurant in *Fargo, ND*. We currently have reservations for 25-30 and a private area reserved. I realize that this date is more than the ďthird month outstateĒ that we tried to stick to but thatís how it worked out this time.

We are considering Grand Rapids area for the July 2006 Breakfast Buddies so mark your calendar! The Grand Rapids area is gorgeous and chock full of excellent caches.

Arrow 2. The 2006 MnGCA Geocoin pre-sale has ended and the order has been placed. We are expecting the coins within several weeks. The sale was considered a huge success and there are some preliminary discussions occurring about a 2007 coin.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns check out the MnGCA Geocoin? thread here: or contact Arcticabn (or any of the geocoin committee members) privately.

Arrow 3. The Star Tribune geocaching article that appeared on January 10th, 2006 (see the write up here: for more information) offered an interesting and informative look into the social aspects of geocaching, especially through the eyes of Darlene Prois who accompanied several of us on one of our WeekNIGHT Caching outings.

The article brought in about twenty new users to the MnGCA website, many of which are now MnGCA Members. It was great seeing geocaching presented in a positive light.

If anyone is interested in joining us on a WeekNIGHT Caching outing, please check the Events section of the Forum here: as we try to post the weekly outing at least a couple days in advance. Everyone is welcome!

Arrow 4. There have been some Forum and Website updates including new versions of our Forum software. If you are having issues logging in to the MnGCA Forum please clear your cookies (for the MnGCA or all of your cookies) and then reattempt a login. If you are still having problems logging in, please contact: and we will do what we can to get you back up and running.

Arrow 5. The preliminary stages of MOGA (Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure) event planning are occurring and it looks like the MnGCA will again have a great team of cachers assembled to defend our two year team-event winning streak and our individual event championship title.

If youíre interested in joining Team MnGCA this year, please check out this thread: for more information.

Even if youíre not interested in competition participation there are plenty of caches to do on the way down, in the park at the event, and on the way home. Itís really a fun time and probably an experience you are not soon to forget.

Thatís about all I have for this month. Feel free to post any comments, questions, etc below.

Happy Cachiní,
Silent Bob
Sad state of affairs.
