| I picked up what appears to be a generic travel bug today, but can't find out who it belongs to and can't log it. It's a U.S. flag sticker with 6 numbers on it in a plastic sleeve that says "Generic TB" on it. Anyone claiming this or know what it is? |

I came across a similar one. I didn't really like the idea, but the 6 didigt number did log as a TB. I logged it as usual just as tough the number were on a tag. It had no goal and wasn't any fun, but it did log. The one I found was a number writen on a Pokemon type toy, some sort of sea horse, it was also called Generic TB. I would think that they won't last long as some folks won't realise they are TB's. _________________ Save the earth.

Well now we know who did it, for some reason that puts a better light on them. I do remember now that it did show up on the list of bugs that I could drop, as a blank. But it did show every where else as Generic TB. _________________ Save the earth.

| After a bit more research this A.M. I found where this bug came from. I couldn't find it when searching for it by name or number, but when I tried to log the number as a find, the page loaded. Guess I should have done that in the first place. Geocaching.com could make it a bit easier to search I think. At any rate, it still looks a bit weird. Heres the link to the bug http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=734 .I e mailed the owners and when I get a reply, I will log it. Perhaps whoever placed it here in MN grabbed it and hasn't logged it yet. Holidays can be a bit hectic at times..... |

when i picked up this bug in early november, it was in a plastic bag that was marked travel bug, but the lettering was wearing off the bag. i wrote a short note indicating it is indeed a travel bug, despite the absense of a dog tag, and inserted that in the bag w/ the hair brush before dropping it off at the dog house inn.
me thinks that the wwf sounds travel bug, "entertain the kids," has been sitting in my wausau area cache since september because it's not obvious that it's a bug. there's the tracking number on it, and i thought it said "travel bug" as well, but for some reason the visitors to that cache this fall have passed on it. next time i'm in the vicinity i will bag it with a note of explanation, assuming it is still awaiting pick up.
this method of re-releasing travel bugs seems like a good idea. since i don't read the gc.com threads, i'm sure the idea has been discussed at great length. is this practice deemed acceptable by geocaching purists, or is it shunned? |
