No don't get me wrong, I love canoeing/kayaking in the BWCA. And I also love geocaching as well as snowmobiling. But you gotta read this article. Here is a telling paragraph:

Quote:
Local snowmobilers say their trail was just a few feet inside the BWCAW and wasn't a problem. But opponents say the trail shouldn't be anywhere near the wilderness boundary, even if it's outside the line.

In the article there is mention of a new trail 400 feet away but that is still to close. Funny how when the trail is a few feet inside the BWCA, it is black and white illegal but the boundary gets "fuzzy" when they try to get as far away as 400 feet and it still shouldn't be allowed. What logic.

Pioneerpress Story

if you can't get to the story let me know and I will post it in it's entirety.

Tom, for once I have to agree with you. Shocked

The article is an interesting read.

Snowmobilers contend that route is too far out of the way.

I don't know of any trails that are too far out of the way for anything. That's the purpose of the trail - to ride. Smile

I agree that a new trail should be built outside the BWCA boundary. That is what a boundary is for. If the trail shouldn't be within 400 feet than the boundary should be 400 feet further out.
I have problems with access, not just for snowmobiling, but also for climbing.
