I'm agreeing with Ice on this one, perhaps the gay cruising area's should not be listed in a "safety" thread, but as more of a "here are things to watch out for". Personally, I'd like to know in advance what to expect getting towards cache's (really don't want to be suprized with questions) but as long as I knew in advance, I'm fine saying no Wink

In reality, if there is a cache near a nude beach, it would be nice to know about, but it's not really a safety issue in my mind. To me, the safety issue would be gunshots, robery, agressive drug dealing, and so forth.

just my two cents (and thinking I'm way to chatty today)

Don't see the safety issue of gay cruising. Doesn't bother me.

Would posts of cachers who felt they were in danger, or uncomfortable qualify? It'll take me awhile, but I can find a few of them. HEH

mtn-man asked me to check out Riverfront today. My report may follow lunch.

I think that perceived danger is as valid as possible danger. And I have no idea if that makes sense. Later

Personally, when Arcticabn, sui generis, and I were at Riverfront after the Fridley BBE, I felt that the lone man sitting in the parking lot primping in his rearview was a bit more afraid of us than we were of him.

Then again I'm a furry wildebeest! Rowr!

LOL @ SB. I'm still amused that I didn't quite realize why all of those guys were sitting around the park when my roomie and I went to find a cache (I'm kinda slow) but they probably figured we we off anyway cause he was wearing a kilt at the time Wink Would have been more entertaining if my GF was with too Laughing

KB, yeah, I guess it is a matter of perception. If I got propositioned while out caching, I would note it and perhaps warn that it could happen...but to me it's just something that happens. If I am out wandering and come across people (male/female/other) involved in relations, I think I'll be more humored than scared...but again that's just me. I'd probably post about it in my log anyway Wink

and with that, I think I will wander away from this thread for a while...

wildebeest? All along I thought you were a Yeti!

All kidding aside, I have never felt uncomfortable in a park, even Riverfront. Do what they may, you can always say No and they go away. No threat.

Do you think those cachers perceiving danger at Riverside would also perceive danger in a predominantly black area of the metro? I'm worried they might.

But, like celticwulf, I'm off these boards for a while and especially this topic.....

I nearly forgot, though I want to. The worst I've ever felt about this topic was at a Vikings game. Early in the first quarter the guy next to me put his hand on my thigh. I never did see the rest of the game.

I can't stand the website errors, so I'm not looking through my archived caches for logs, Wouldn't makec a bit of difference anyway, so WTF?

I don't have a dog, but the machete I carried around the park today must have made an impression.

Based on people's reactions when I head towards them (it's too cold for my B.O. to be a factor these days) I would say it's our beard and long hair KB Wink

Article IX of the Bylaws

Non-Discrimination Clause
The MnGCA shall not discriminate against people on the basis of race,
color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual
orientation, or any legally protected characteristic.

I think this discussion is potentially very offensive to al least some of the probably 40-50 gay members of the MnGCA.

This is not the proper thread for this discussion. Start a new thread if you are serious about it. If you aren't serious, and instead are making fun of the issue, I'd cease and desist now.

Of course I'm serious. A public organization can't have its president and past board members joking about "primping" gays and a fear of unwanted touching and "more afraid of us than we are of him" type talk. Come on!

This entire thread is totally tasteless and offensive. I'm sure you don't mean it to be, but this is not an old boys club, it is a public organization with a wide diversity of membership.

Please stop now.

I thought it was a thread regarding men crusing parks for illegal sex.

Your comparision to a black neighborhood is what is in error. We were not discussing gay matters, but illegal ones.
