We're brand new to caching and live in the Ely area. We're very much looking forward to getting into this sport. We're applying to the DNR today in hopes of being able to place our first cache very soon.

We went over to Embarrass yesterday to attempt our first cache, which was to be Embarrissingly Simple, but once there, my husband had to confess he'd forgotten to bring his mukluks, Rolling Eyes and there was still a lot of snow. So I guess we really were Embarrassed and we're still looking for our first find. Hopefully, the snow will go away soon so some of the archived caches will be re-activated.

We've had fun already tramping around looking for likely hiding places. We can only anticipate how much more full it'll be once we actually find something!

Hi, and welcome to the world of geocaching. I have to warn you, you won't get anywhere with the DNR--a couple of years ago, they banned geocaching altogether in State Parks until they can study it and come up with a policy, and moving at the speed of government, they haven't got a policy in place yet.

Okay, then I guess we'll just have to hope the USFS is more receptive!

It's too bad the state parks aren't more lenient, but I can understand their concerns.

The Superior National Forest is, and I believe other NFs are going to join them soon. Here is our summary on who allows what where:
